About me

Alkistis is a Jazz & world music vocalist and music educator from Greece. Alkistis is a versatile musician who loves to explore different musical genres. Her experimentation and involvement in learning different music genres of the world together with her love for jazz improvisation identified her by using her voice as an instrument with a non-word approach as well as arranging folk music of the world in multiple languages such as Spanish, Portuguese and her native language Greek.  Odd meters, eastern melodies, latin vibes, non-word singing and jazz improvisations is what you can expect from her music.

Born into a musical family in Athens, Greece, Alkistis has developed a strong interest for music from a very young age. This path led her to attend the music high school of Pallini in Athens where she was trained in western classical and Greek folk music.

After that, in 2020 Alkistis obtained a Master's degree in Music, in the Jazz improvisation domain from the Codarts Conservatoire of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

During her master's Alkistis focused on modal jazz improvisation. This led her to connect with her mediterranean roots and combine Greek folk modal music with jazz elements and the opposite.

Throughout the years she had the luck to meet several exceptional teachers. To name a few, she studied singing technique with the baritone Wiebe Pier-Cnossen as well as with Harjo Pasveer. Jazz singing with Bart de Win and Francien van Tuinen and jazz improvisation techniques with the saxophonist Tineke Postma & the trumpeter Jarmo Hoogendijk among others.
